Urban deck space is a rare commodity and cluttering your deck with furniture is a difficult thing to
justify doing when you have so little room for anything. The obvious solution, yet one so easily missed (except by industrial and furniture designer Sandy Lam) is to integrate your deck furniture pieces with the deck structure itself – to hide your needed seating and work spaces in plain sight.
A bench and a table are one set of things but the possibilities for shaping furniture and exterior spaces from hidden and recessed panels in your deck surface are relatively limitless. One could imaging designs that would actually provide modular shelters, storage spaces and auxiliary surfaces for as-needed functions that go well beyond the basics.
